Founder of K. Noelle Artistry
Kristyn is entering her 17th year in the beauty industry. After growing up in Northern Indiana, never, in her wildest dreams did she think she would be running her own hair and makeup business in the outrageously gorgeous Northern Michigan. She feels so fortunate to be creatively using her hair and makeup talents, while meeting some really amazing people, while traveling through luscious countryside to set up her pop-up boutique at one of the many beautiful venues UpNorth. Life is grand!
Favorite hair styles- a sleek chignon bun or slightly loose, all down or half up with a twist at the nape with loose curls, or loosely twisted braid that elegantly tapers down the back.
Favorite makeup style- glowing natural skin (Airbrush),a bit of highlighter on the cheekbone, a slight contouring in the hollows of the cheek and along the jawline, false lashes, eye shadow contouring, a fine line of dark brown/black eyeliner all the way around the eye, extra mascara and a neutral lip (In the fall, a mulberry lip color is gorgeous).
Experience/Education- began with stage makeup, Boutique makeup, extended education at MUD (Makeup Designory School), Kevin James Bennett Makeup class (Chicago, Ill), Smashbox training, Epiphanyl Salon and Spa Apprenticeship (Cosmetology License), Hair and Makeup by Steph Seminar in Detroit,MI , Aveda Hair Shows, Chicago Hair Show, The Makeup Show with master classes by Orlando Santiago.
Outside of the beauty industry, Kristyn will be dreaming of her next great outdoors excursion. She does not like to tent camp, yet, well maybe never. She does enjoy a nice big RV with running water and her own toilet. Her husband husband, 2 boys, and the double doodle, Mila, are always including in this dreaming process. Our next dream is to head out west to The Grand Canyon, Colorado, Zion National Park and some day Hawaii! Will it happen this year? She hopes so!
When she’s not dreaming of traveling she’s planning her next meet up with her family in Indiana, Ohio, and Illinois. They are pretty special to her. Hiking, kayaking, swimming, boating, eating (at new foodie joints), anything outdoors, taking kids to camps, reading, coffeeing, wineing are favorites as well.
“Beauty isn’t hard to find when you feel it in your heart.”
Creating fresh looks from start to finish, Melissa Buchanan has helped brides in Northern Michigan look and feel their best since 2008. By listening to and getting to know her clients, she helps them find a style that highlights their best features while also revealing the natural beauty within.
The No-Fear Approach
“Makeup has the power to make you feel special."
There’s no reason to fear. Trained, professional stylists like Melissa can help brides look and feel their best while still looking like themselves.
“Makeup doesn’t need to be so heavy that it conceals all of your freckles or covers up your natural beauty marks,” she said. “That’s why it’s important to talk with a professional.” They not only help brides find the right shades and products, they also know how to use those shades and products to emphasize a woman’s natural beauty on her special day.
The Complete Look
“Beauty comes from the inside out.”
Every woman’s beauty comes from within, not from comparing herself to others. Melissa recognizes that beauty and lets it inspire her work. Using that inspiration, she helps her clients achieve the perfect look for their events. By staying up on hair and makeup trends, taking classes, and continuing her education, she’s always ready to help her clients create a stunning personalized look.
“I love makeup because it can evolve into anything you’d like,” she said. “If you’re going for a natural look, sexy look, artistic look, or over the top—makeup will always be there for you!”
Why It Matters
“Feeling comfortable is so important for your self-confidence.”
When brides look good, they feel good, and feeling good on her wedding day cangive a bride the comfort and confidence she needs to enjoy every minute of it. “There are so many special moments during the day that a bride wants to remember,” Melissa said. “I want to help my clients relax so they can take it all in and enjoy every precious moment.”
Outside the Salon
An avid traveler, exploring the world and seeing its beauty not only motivates Melissa, it fuels her gratitude and passion to share beauty with others. When she’s not traveling or working with brides, she enjoys spending time outside with her husband (soul mate and love of her life) and Australian shepherd.
Drink plenty of water! It will help rid the body and skin of toxins and give it a more radiant glow.
“Beauty is when a woman is fully comfortable with herself.”
With so many unrealistic expectations trying to set the beauty standard for brides, Elise Henfling helps her clients look past other people’s expectations to embrace and highlight their own natural beauty for their special days.
The Natural Approach
“The most misunderstood aspect of beauty is that it’s defined one way.”
Every woman is beautiful, and since 2014 Elise had been helping brides discover their own unique beauty. “There is so much beauty in all different styles and trends,” she says. “It can be challenging to feel like enough just being your natural self, but I love how makeup can help women enhance their natural beauty.”
It’s not just about the makeup though—it’s about creating a work of art that the bride and groom can cherish for years to come. It’s Elise’s passion to create a look and style that her clients will remember and enjoy long after the vows have been shared.
The Personal Touch
“The most common mistake I see is when a bride doesn’t know how to manage her hair texture or skin type or she doesn’t know how to use the correct product.”
No two brides are the same, which is why Elise gives each client the personalized attention and treatment she deserves. Instead of giving brides the most popular looks or styles, she works with each hair and skin type, texture, and color to create a uniquely stunning look.
Why It Matters
Brides should enjoy their weddings, not worry about them. By helping brides relax and feel confident, Elise helps make the day memorable for all the right reasons. “It’s a day of beauty, gathering of family and friends, and the beginning of a partnership to last a lifetime. It should begin stress free, and I strive to provide that calmness for each bride.”
Outside the Salon
A Northern Michigan resident, when Elise isn’t in the salon she’s enjoying the outdoors (sun or snow!) with her three dogs.
Exfoliate and moisturize frequently for a week (or months!) before your event. That will help balance the skin, which always looks more beautiful in real life and on camera.
